Erbil: On 25/7/2017, in the presence of Dr. Dara Jalil Khayat the president of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry a workshop held over  the reforms should be made in the technical and vocational training education in Kurdistan Region and Iraq by UNESCO delegation composed of Ms. Alison Shmidet and Hafdan Farstad .

A number of the members of board of directors of the Erbil And Sulaimanya Chamber, representatives of a number of oil and Gas companies, tourism and agriculture and a number of businessmen were attended in the The Workshop.

In the outset of the meeting, Dr. Khayat made a speech, said:

In welcome all to this workshop which is about technical and vocational training education which is called TVET.

It is obvious that the economic development is contingent upon providing a talented workforce    Which is skilled by science and technology. We should also consider the the situation that we have sustained through the past which has been put a negative impact on TVET in the fields of the outdated programs, devices, laboratories and lacking stuffs and unavailability of empowerment opportunities for the teachers and professors of this field, and mainly the fragile relation between vocational training and the need of the work market.

He continued: still we don't have study and data about the needs of the job market , no assessment made.

Researches are suggesting that the need of the job market in Kurdistan is in the fields of services, the wholesale market, communication and 3/4 of the job opportunities in the private sector are in the fields of service, sale, agricultural expertise, the different professions, wholesale and retail sale, Industry and operating devices. The professional schools are able to make al of those cadres available, but 1/3 of the owner of businesses believe that the graduates of those schools are not educated well on their professions and that they are lacking technical Ana practical knowledge, also they are not qualified in the foreign languages and technology skills. Also, they don't have personal skills.

For example, one of the companies has employed 600 foreign employees out of 700, when it has been asked about the reason said that the local institute graduate are lacking skill in language and computer also they need practical experience.

Unlike the countries n the world, in Kurdistan the owner of businesses are not taking part in the organization and management of TVET.

Actually, specifying the disadvantages might facilitate for reassessment and outing a strategy for completing and enriching the schools curriculum for providing more job opportunities to the local graduates and strengthening economy.

The UNESCO and the Kurdistan Trade chambers are ready to help for having better organization for TVET.

Later, MS Alison Shmidet and Havdan Farstad pointed out to the program of their agency through data showing.

Then, Mr. Anwar from the Chambers Federation gave a lecture. And, the attendees gave their viewpoints.
